Well – what a year it’s been! Like many of you, Golden Fords has faced the trials and tribulations that the pandemic has thrown us. Sometimes, it has been a struggle to complete even the simplest of tasks, with that light at the end of the tunnel not quite getting close enough.
Despite all the adversity of 2020, there have also been a great many things that happened this year that we believe showed the best side of people: countless amounts of goodwill, gestures of kindness and love, and people generally just going out of their way to do right by their neighbour.
Before we get into our end of year roundup, please note that we will be closing the website over the Christmas period, starting December 24th. This downtime will allow us to update and reorganise the site to make it more user-friendly and less clunky. We will be reopening on January 4th 2021, and will be offering some new exciting products that we know you're going to love. We've got some lovely new scents coming your way, so make sure you follow us on Instagram to keep up-to-date on all the latest things.
Some of you might not be aware that Golden Fords was set up at the very beginning of the pandemic. We had no idea just what we were going to be facing, and we have come so far despite the many obstacles one after another. We have had to be flexible and patient in the way we have grown the business, developing a number of products that we know you love, and some you don't. But on the whole, the feedback we’ve received has been extremely positive, and we really feel that we’ve all created a community around the brand. Our brand and our community is all about supporting small and local businesses, particularly through these trying times, and (when possible!) teaching people new skills while having a some fun along the way.
If you’ve been with us since the beginning, then you’ve probably noticed some things chopping and changing as we figure some things out. At Golden Fords, we do our best to be flexible and this can sometimes mean your candles arriving in slightly different glasses, or having slightly different lids than you expect. This year, supply chains have been severely impacted so it isn’t always possible to get exactly the same materials from exactly the same suppliers. In light of this, we have adjusted as best we can, and made substitutions where necessary; but the quality of our products remains the same.
We’re always developing and refining the way our business is run. So as we move forward into 2021, we will be changing a few more things to ensure we give you the best quality, service and products. We’ll continue to upcycle packing material from goods we buy and when we have exhausted this supply, we now use a compostable bio-fill material for packing.
We no longer use plastic packing tape, or plastic postal sleeves and only use paper materials that can be fully recycled for our shipping and packing supplies. In an effort to support local businesses, we now purchase all our shipping materials from a local supplier in Guildford.
Another change for the New Year is that we are changing our shipping partners in an effort to supply the products to you in a timely manner. After being made aware of some customers facing issues with Hermes, we’ll no longer be using them as a deliverer. Overall, we feel that Royal Mail and UPS provide a more streamlined and robust service that you can rely on.
We’d also like to say a huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has supported Golden Fords this year, and to those of you who booked onto our candle making workshops. They were a real blast and we are so glad that we were able to at least operate 50% of the classes. Unfortunately, due to the new tier system we had no option but to cancel the remaining classes until next year, but please be reassured that these classes will go ahead when we are able to do so in a safe and enjoyable manner.
If we could just ask one last thing of our lovely customers, it would mean the world to receive your feedback on our products. The feedback we've already had from so many of you has been amazing. Like all small businesses, we need your support to help us grow and be the best we can be so that we enter next year in fighting form.
We truly hope that you can see our passion and our drive to create wonderful candles that you love. Particularly with what this year has thrown at us, our mission has been to create some peace and tranquillity in everyone's home at a time when they desperately need it. If have five minutes to spare, please leave us a review on Google or Facebook. Your support is much appreciated.
So, whatever your plans for Christmas may be, or however they've changed, we just want to wish you a very Merry Christmas. Stay safe, look after the ones you love, and whatever happens, we’ll face it together.
Lots of festive love,
